This is a list of how other franchises and legends influenced or were referenced by characters, creatures, locations, magic and objects in the Winx Club franchise.

Similarly, Bloom was the last survivor from her planet, Domino, which was destroyed when the Ancestral Witches attacked it. Bloom's biological parents, Oritel and Marion, disappeared during the disaster. Kal-El's biological parents saved him from their planet's destruction by placing him in a rocket when he was a still a baby and sent him to Earth. Bloom's biological elder sister, Daphne, saved her from her planet's destruction when she was still a baby by sending her to Earth through a magical portal. The rocket containing baby Kal-El was found by Jonathan and Martha Kent, a married couple of human farmers from the small town of Smallville, Kansas in the United States of America on Earth. Jonathan and Martha adopted Kal-El, named him Clark Kent, and raised him as their own son. Bloom was similarly found in a magical protective shield in a building on fire by Mike, a human firefighter, who adopted her together with his wife Vanessa, a human florist, and they raised her as their own daughter in the town of Gardenia, California, in the United States of America on Earth. As he grew up, Kal-El/Clark Kent developed super powers because, being a alien from planet Krypton whose sun is red, his body absorbs radiation from the yellow sun of planet Earth and transforms it into superhuman abilities. When Bloom grew up and she turned 16 years old, her magical powers started manifesting themselves, giving her magical superhuman abilities. When he grew up, Kal-El/Clark Kent adopted the secret identity of Superman, who wears a primarily blue-colored costume, to fight evil Similarly, when Bloom grew up, she became a fairy who transforms into a blue-colored fairy costume to fight evil. In the "Legacy" episodes of Superman: The Animated Series, Superman is captured and temporarily turned evil by Darkseid, the God of Evil who rules over the planet Apokolips and wants to conquer the universe Similarly, at the end of Season 2, Bloom is captured and temporarily turned evil by Lord Darkar, the ancient deity of pure darkness and evil of the Winx Club universe
	Harry Potter	Harry Potter	Bloom might have been partially inspired by Harry Potter too. Just like how Bloom's biological parents disappeared when she was a baby, Harry's parents were killed when he was a baby by Lord Voldemort and lived as an ordinary boy with his aunt and uncle until he found out he was a wizard and joined the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. In the same way, Bloom's family disappeared when her kingdom was destroyed by the Ancestral Witches when she was a baby and she grew up with a family on Earth not knowing who she was and from where she came from until found out she was a Fairy when she met Stella and went to the Alfea School for Fairies in Magix. Both Harry and Bloom eventually defeat and cause the deaths of the ones because of whom they lost their parents. Harry's nemesis at school is Draco Malfoy, a cruel and very arrogant boy with very pale blond hair. Bloom's nemesis is Icy, a cruel and very arrogant girl with pale bluish white hair. Both Draco and Icy have sharp, pointed facial features.
	Marvel Comics	Jean Grey as she appears in the Dark Phoenix Saga storyline	Jean Grey is a very powerful red-haired character and was the temporary vessel of the Phoenix Force, one of the oldest known cosmic entities of the Marvel Universe that represents life that has not yet been born and is an immortal, indestructible, and mutable manifestation of the prime universal force of life. Bloom similarly is a powerful red-haired character who is the vessel of the Dragon's Flame, which represents creation and is the source of all magic and life. Both Bloom and Jean at one point became evil. Bloom was turned into Dark Bloom by Darkar just like Jean Grey, as the Phoenix, was turned into the Dark Phoenix by Mastermind and the Hellfire Club. The scene where Bloom heals herself from Darkar's spell and reverts back to her normal self from her Dark Bloom form after Sky speaks to her is similar to how Jean Grey temporarily reverts back to her normal self from her Dark Phoenix form after her boyfriend Scott Summers/Cyclops confronts her in "The Dark Phoenix Saga - Part III: The Dark Phoenix" of X-Men: The Animated Series.
	A Song of Ice and Fire	Daenerys Targaryen	Daenerys is a dragon princess who comes from House Targaryen, an ancient dynasty closely associated with dragons and who were said to have dragon blood and to be able to control dragons. Shortly before the birth of Daenerys, her father, Aerys II Targaryen, the Mad King of the Seven Kingdoms, was overthrown and killed in a rebellion and most her family was killed as well. Her mother Queen Rhaella died while giving birth to her. Daenerys and her brother Viserys Targaryen then spent most of their lives in exile and after the death of Viserys, Daenerys becomes the last member of her family to still be alive and one of her greatest desires is to reconquer her family's kingdom. Bloom is a dragon princess who comes from the dynasty of an ancient kingdom. The dynasty she belongs to is closely associated with the Great Dragon and its heirs possess a part of the Dragon's powers. When Bloom was a baby her kingdom was destroyed and her parents disappeared while her sister was "killed". She lived in exile on Earth. Her greatest desire was to find her parents until she finally restored her kingdom and saved her whole family. The theme of A Song of Ice and Fire is considered by some of its fans to be a war of Ice against Fire. Similarly, the theme of the show in Season 1 is a fight of Fire, represented by Bloom, against Ice, represented by Icy.
	The Wizard of Oz	Dorothy Gale	The design of Bloom's Believix dress and her two hair braids in her Believix form appear to have been inspired by the dress of Dorothy from 1939 movie adaptation of The Wizard of Oz

Daphne ran away from Apollo but she was too slow and begged her father to protect her, and was turned into a laurel tree

Ninfea	Classical Mythology	Nymphs	Ninfea's name is a variation of "Ninfa", the Italian word for Nymph. Nymphs are minor deities of Nature in Greek Mythology who are usually associated to trees, forests, rivers among others and who usually accompany the superior deities (the Gods and Goddesses).
Athena		The Goddess Athena	Athena (Αθήνα in Greek), also called Minerva by the Romans, is the goddess of war, civilization, wisdom, strength, strategy, crafts, justice and skill in Greek mythology. She is the patron of the Greek City of Athens, which was named in her honor.
Discorda		The Goddess Discordia	Her name comes from the Latin word Discordia, meaning strife which is as well the name by which the Romans called the Greek Goddess of Strife, Eris, when they adopted her into their pantheon. Her opposite is Concordia, the Goddess of Agreement, Understanding and Marital Harmony, called Harmonia by the Greeks.
Concorda		The Goddess Concordia	Concorda's name comes from that of Concordia, the Roman Goddess of Agreement, Understanding and Marital Harmony. Her Greek counterpart is Harmonia, the immortal Goddess of Harmony and Concord. Her opposite is Discorda (the Greek Eris), who is the Goddess of Strife.

The Great Dragon	Tolkien's Legandarium	The Secret Fire	Since the Great Dragon was the life-giver of the Magic Dimension and its opposite, the Shadow Phoenix, was possibly inspired by Morgoth and Sauron from the The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, it is possible the Dragon might have been partially been inspired by the Secret Fire, which is the heavenly power of creation that Morgoth wanted to capture to control all life, from Tolkien's book The Silmarillion. Like Morgoth, Darkar wanted to capture the power of the Great Dragon so he could conquer the whole Magic Dimension.
	Marvel Comics	The Phoenix Force	The Great Dragon and the power of the Dragon's Flame were probably inspired from the Phoenix Force of the Marvel Comics which is described as one of the oldest known cosmic entities, representing life that has not yet been born. The Phoenix Force is an immortal, indestructible, and mutable manifestation of the prime universal force of life. Born of the void between states of being, the Phoenix Force is a child of the universe. Another similarity is that Bloom is the vessel of the Dragon's Flame and Jean Grey temporarily served as a vessel for the Phoenix Force and Bloom was turned into Dark Bloom by Darkar just like Jean Grey, as the Phoenix, was turned into the Dark Phoenix by Mastermind and the Hellfire Club
	Transformers	Primus	Primus is an ancient good God of Light who originated at the dawn of the universe Similarly, the Great Dragon is an ancient deity of light and life who originated at the dawn of the universe Primus' twin brother is the God of Chaos, Unicron, who is also his opposite, with Primus representing good and order while Unicron represents evil and chaos, and their continued existence is considered necessary for the existence of the universe. Primus later became the planet Cybertron, the home world of the Transformers, and his name is invoked religiously by both the Autobot and the Decepticon factions of the Transformers. Similarly, the Great Dragon's opposite is the Shadow Phoenix, with the Great Dragon representing light and good while the Shadow Phoenix represents darkness and evil, and Professor Wizgiz implied in Season 2 that their continued existence is necessary for the balance of the universe. The Great Dragon later went to rest on the planet of Domino, and its name is invoked with high respect by both the Fairies and the Witches. The essence of Primus is contained in the Matrix of Leadership, which Unicron seeks to obtain so he can reach his goals. Similarly, the essence of the Great Dragon is the Dragon's Flame, which the Shadow Phoenix seeks so it can reach its goals.

Professor Wizgiz	Harry Potter	Professor Flitwick	Professor Wizgiz might have been inspired by the Professor Flitwick, the Charms teacher at Hogwarts from the Harry Potter series who, just like Wizgiz, is a tiny person who wears green clothes and is a very eccentric teacher.
Professor Griselda		Minerva McGonagall	Griselda's strict but caring personality and her loyalty to Faragonda appear to have been inspired by Professor McGonagall from Harry Potter
		Argus Filch	Griselda's extremely strict measures as the Head of Discipline of Alfea appears to have been inspired by those of Argus Filch from Harry Potter
Headmistress Faragonda		Albus Dumbledore	Her personality and role of helping Bloom on her quests is similar to that of Albus Dumbledore from the Harry Potter series Her role as the headteacher of Alfea who was in the Company of Light which fought against the Ancestral Witches and Valtor appears to have been inspired by how Dumbledore was the Headmaster of Hogwarts and a member of the Order of the Phoenix whose goal was to fight against Lord Voldemort Her battle with Valtor during Season 3 also reflects the battle between Dumbledore and Voldemort in the fifth book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
	Star Wars	Princess Leia Organa	During a flashback in Season 3, Faragonda's hairstyle consists of two buns on the sides of her head and covering each of her ears, similarly to the hairstyle of Princess Leia Organa from the Star Wars series
	Disney animated movies	Madame Adelaide Bonfamille	Faragonda's appearance may have been inspired by that of Madame Adelaide Bonfamille from the Disney animated movie, The Aristocats. Faragonda's facial features, her hairstyle from Season 1 to Season 5, and how she regularly wears lavender-colored clothes are very similar to Madame Bonfamille's facial features, her hairstyle and her dressing style
Headmistress Griffin		Maleficent	The appearance of Headmistress Griffin was likely inspired by Maleficent from the Disney movie Sleeping Beauty Both Griffin and Maleficent have green skin, wear purple and mauve robes and live in dark castles located in mountains Both Maleficent's and Griffin's spells also appear in the form of green light

	Classical Mythology	The Griffin	The Griffin is a legendary creature from Greek mythology depicted as having the body of a lion and the head, wings and front legs of an eagle. The griffin of Greek mythology was itself inspired by similar creatures from many other ancient mythologies, where they were thought to protect from evil, witchcraft and evil slander. In medieval folklore, its claws were said to have medicinal powers, and that its feathers the ability to give their sight back to the blind.
Queen Luna		Luna	Luna is the Latin and Italian word for the Moon, as well as the name of the Goddess of the Moon in Roman Mythology.
Circe		The Goddess Circe	Circe is inspired by the Goddess of Magic or sorceress nymph Circe from Greek Mythology, who was the daughter of the Sun God Helios and the Goddess of Magic Hecate. Circe would transform those who offended her into animals and the legend most famously associated to her is part of the Greek mythological poem, The Odyssey, where the Odysseus lands on her island and she invites members of his ship's crew to a feast before turning them into pigs. With the help of the God Hermes and the Goddess Athena, Odysseus resisted Circe's magic and forced her to turn back his ship's crew into humans. When Odysseus left Circe's island, she advised him how to return to his home.
Charybdis		The Monster Charybdis	Charybdis was inspired by Charybdis, from Greek Mythology, who was a daughter of the Sea God Poseidon and the Earth Goddess Gaia. As punishment for supporting her father in a war against him, the King of the Gods, Poseidon's brother and Charybdis's uncle, Zeus, chained her to the bottom of the ocean and cursed her so she would become a monster with an uncontrollable thirst, which caused her to create large whirlpools when she drank sea water to quench her thirst. Charybdis was believed to live under a small rock on one side of a channel opposite to another dangerous monster, Scylla. Charybdis and Scylla were both very dangerous for ships who passed to close to them, and the channel they were located in was so narrow that sailors would be caught by one of them when they tried to avoid the other. According to the Greek mythological poem, The Odyssey, after leaving the island of Circe, the hero Odysseus had to pass through the channel of Scylla and Charybdis and he chose to avoid Charybdis and pass near Scylla since Scylla was less dangerous.
Scylla		The Monster Scylla	Scylla was inspired by Scylla from Greek Mythology, a Naiad (a nymph of freshwater). The Sea God Glaucus loved Scylla, but the Sorceress Goddess Circe loved Glaucus and was jealous of Scylla, and transformed Scylla into a horrible monster out of jealousy. Scylla's monster form had four eyes, six snaky heads, twelve tentacle-like legs, a cat's tail, and six dog heads on her waist which would each eat a crew member from each ship which passed near her. Scylla was believed to live on one side of a channel opposite to another dangerous monster, Charybdis. The Ethereal Fairies		The Fates	The Ethereal Fairies are inspired by the Moirai or the Fates, who in Greek Mythology were the incarnations of destiny. They controlled the mother thread of life of every mortal from birth to death. They were independent, at the helm of necessity, directed fate, and watched that the fate assigned to every being by eternal laws might take its course without obstruction. Just as each Ethereal Fairy possesses a Gift of Destiny, so to does each Fate have a tool for the thread of life.
		Aether	Aether is the name of the substance considered by the ancient Greeks to be one of the five elements making the universe. It was thought by them to fill the regions above the Earth's atmosphere, to be what space and most celestial objects were made of, and to be the medium in which the Greek gods lived.
Morgana	Celtic Mythology	Morgan le Fay	A very likely inspiration for Morgana might be Morgan le Fay from the Arthurian Legend who was described as a sorceress/fay (fairy) with formidable powers and who was the enemy of King Arthur and was ever plotting the downfall of humanity (similar to Morgana's Great Revenge against the humans after the Winx freed her), as references to the Arthurian Legend were made when Faragonda was telling the Winx the story of the Earth Fairies (one of the images Faragonda showed to the Winx depicted the Lady of the Lake, who has often been associated with Morgan le Fay, holding Excalibur). Morgan le Fay was said to have the power of raising castles over the sea and to control the winds, hence the common expression Fata Morgana for mirages commonly seen off the coast of Sicily which were attributed to her.
Diana	Classical Mythology	The Goddess Diana	Diana's name comes from the Roman Goddess Diana. She is the Goddess of the Hunt and the Moon who was associated with wild animals and wildlands, hence the Winx Club Diana's power.
Aurora		Aurora	In Roman Mythology, Aurora is the Goddess of Dawn, who flies across the sky every morning to announce the arrival of her brother, Helios, the God of the Sun. Her Greek counterpart, Eos, runs a flying chariot across the sky and is the generatrix of all stars and planets. This possibly served as the main source of inspiration for Winx Club's Aurora being given a flying Frost Tower, which was first seen among the stars in the upper atmosphere of Earth.
	Real Life	Auroras	The Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis are phenomena that occur in polar regions as colorful lights in the sky, which may relate back to Aurora being the Major Fairy of the North, since she lives in polar regions.
Nebula		Nebulas	A nebula is an interstellar cloud of various gases and dust. It also used to be used as general term for any unidentified object in space.
	Classical Mythology	The Goddess Nemesis	The word nebula itself means cloud in Latin, which could be a reference to the Greek Goddess of Revenge, Nemesis, who was duty-bound to give humans divine punishment of the Gods. As a goddess, Nemesis lived above the clouds on Mount Olympus. Nemesis' role as a divine punisher could have also been the basis for Nebula's insatiable thirst for vengeance upon being freed.
Sibylla		The Cumaean Sibyl	**The name Sibylla is a reference to the Cumaean Sibyl of Roman Mythology, who was a priestess of the God Apollo and who presided over the Apollonian Oracle in a cave at Cumae, near Naples in Italy. She later became the most famous of all Sibyls during the Roman Empire.
		Lady Justice	Lady Justice, the Roman goddess of Justice, is considered to be absolutely impartial and her depictions show her blindfolded while holding a balance and a double-edged sword to represent this.
Riven	Tolkien's Legendarium	Rivendell	Rivendell, which is a place featured in the The Lord of the Rings books of J.R.R. Tolkien, since it seems that many alphabets, characters, names, objects and places in the Winx Club universe were inspired from Tolkien's fictional universe. It was one of the last outposts of the Elves in Middle-Earth and where the lord Elrond resides. Rivendell itself is the English/Old English translation of Sindarin Elvish Imladris, meaning "Deep Valley of the Cleft".
Professor Palladium		Elves	Professor Palladium looks like and might have been inspired by the Elves depicted in the The Lord of the Rings books and the movie adaptations of The Lord of the Rings, both in his having pointed ears, his hairstyle and his facial appearance. It could be that he was inspired by them, or that he is, in fact, a tribute to The Lord of the Rings, which is considered both as one of the foundations and a masterpiece in fantasy.

Erendor		Eärendur	*Erendor's name was likely inspired by the name Eärendur, which is the name of several characters appearing in The Lord of the Rings and other books by J.R.R. Tolkien
Morwen		Morwen	Queen Morwen possibly gets her name from Morwen, a tragic character from J. R. R. Tolkien's book, The Silmarillion, who is one of the ancient humans from the ancient era known as the First Age, and was the wife of the hero Húrin Thalion, with whom she had three children: Túrin Turambar (one of the main heroes of The Silmarillion), Lalaith and Niënor Níniel. The name "Morwen" itself means "Dark Maiden" in Sindarin, one of the many Elvish languages spoken by the Elves in the fictional world created by English writer J. R. R. Tolkien and featuring in his The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion books. According to Tolkien's writings, Morwen was tall, dark-haired and beautiful, and because of this people called her "Eledhwen", which means "Elfsheen" or "Elf-Maiden" even though she was a human.
Mitril		Mithril	Mitril's name is derived from Mithril, a fictional silver-like metal which appears in The Lord of the Rings books by J. R. R. Tolkien
Thoren		Thorin Oakenshield	Thoren's name may be based on Thorin Oakenshield, a King of the Dwarves from J.R.R. Tolkien's book The Hobbit. The name Thorin is itself an Old Norse language name representing the Norse God Thor.
	Norse mythology	Thor	Thoren's name and appearance might have also been inspired by Thor, the God of Thunder, Lightning and Storms of Norse mythology, who wields a magical hammer named Mjölnir as his weapon.
	Marvel Comics	Thor	Alternatively, Thoren might have been inspired by the Marvel Comics superhero Thor, who is a re-imagination of the Norse God Thor as a superhero and who also uses the magical hammer Mjolnir as his weapon
King Neptune	Greek Mythology	The God Poseidon/Neptune	According to Roman mythology, Neptune is the God of the Sea. The Greek equivalent of Neptune, Poseidon, is married to Amphitrite, a Nereid nymph, one of the fifty daughters of the God Nereus, and with her had a son: the marine God Triton, who is half-man half-fish. Amphitrite also has a sister named Galatea.
Prince Nereus		The God Nereus	According to Greek mythology, Nereus is a marine God. He is the son of Pontus, the Sea, and of Gaia, the Earth. He was sometimes called the Old Man of the Sea and with his wife is, Doris, who represented the bounty of the sea and who is an Oceanid nymph, one of the 3000 daughters of the God Oceanus, the World Ocean, and of the Goddess Tethys, the Mother of All Rivers and the Embodiment of all Waters of the World, who are both the children of Gaia and of Uranus, the Sky. With her he had fifty daughters, the nymphs called Nereids, with whom he lived in the Aegean Sea. Among them, Thetis was the mother of the Greek hero Achilles. Another of them is Amphitrite, the wife of Poseidon (the Greek equivalent of the Roman God Neptune), the God of the Sea, and Poseidon and Amphitrite were the parents of the half-man half-fish marine God Triton.
Prince Tritannus		The God Triton	Triton is a Marine God of Greek Mythology who is the son of Poseidon, the God of the Sea (whose Roman equivalent is named Neptune), and his wife Amphitrite, the Nereid sea nymph and daughter of the Sea God Nereus. Triton is depicted as being half-man half-fish, the tritons are his descendants and, like him, are also half-human half-fish. One of Amphitrite's 49 sisters is named Galatea. Like his father Poseidon, Triton also has a trident as weapon.
		The Titans	Tritannus' name might also have been inspired by the Titans, a race of primeval deities in Greek Mythology who are said to be immortal giants and who once used to rule the world until the God Zeus defeated them and proclaimed himself and his brothers and sisters as the new rulers of the world.
	Marvel Comics	Titannus	Another influence on Tritannus and his name might have been Titannus, a fictional character from of the shape-shifting species called the Skrulls from Marvel Comics. After he underwent an experiment which gave him enhanced strength and healing factor, Titannus went on a rampage on his planet and later on other planets, eventually attacking Earth until he was confronted by the superhero team known as the Defenders.
The Trix	Harry Potter	Bellatrix Lestrange	A possible inspiration for the Trix themselves might have been the Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange from the Harry Potter series, who was as cruel, pitiless and sadistic as the Trix and was fanatically devoted to Lord Voldemort, who killed Harry's parents, similarly to how the Trix worked for and wanted the approval of Valtor, who had a role to play in the disappearance of Bloom's parents. In the Harry Potter movie adaptations, Bellatrix appears to wear similar Gothic-styled clothes as the Trix. However since the movie where Bellatrix first appeared was filmed many years after the first Winx Club season was aired, it is unknown if the appearance of the Trix had any influence on her appearance in the films or not.
Icy		Draco Malfoy	A possible inspiration for Icy might be Bellatrix's nephew Draco Malfoy. Both Icy and Draco have sharp and pointed features and very pale hair and are, respectively, Bloom's and Harry's nemeses in school.
The Ancestral Witches	Fairy tales	Wicked Fairy Godmother	The Ancestral Witches were probably inspired by the Wicked Fairy Godmother, also known by the name of Carabossa a figure in fairy tales. She is the witch who puts a curse on the princess and makes her fall into her hundred-year sleep in the Sleeping Beauty tale. She is depicted as an old, ugly and bad humpbacked woman.

	Tolkien's Legendarium	The Nazgûl	Another source of inspiration for the Ancestral Witches might have been the the Nazgûl as they appeared in the The Lord of the Rings books and films: once powerful and made of flesh and bones like everyone else, but later becoming wraiths (the bodies of the Ancestresses apparently perished during their imprisonment in Obsidian, and were bound to continue existing in a ghost-like appearance).
Lord Darkar		Morgoth	Lord Darkar's appearance is similar to that of Sauron and Morgoth in the The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion books of J.R.R. Tolkien, especially to how Sauron appeared in the The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring movie adaptation, wearing/his body being like a dark armor. Even Darkar's role in Winx Club is somewhat similar to that of Morgoth and of Sauron in the world of Tolkien in the following ways: In the Cinélume Version, Darkar caused the destruction of Domino by sending his servers, the Ancestral Witches there to claim the Dragon Fire, just like Morgoth caused the destruction of the Realms of the Elves and of Men in The Silmarillion, and Sauron caused the Downfall of Númenor in The Silmarillion by corrupting the minds of the people of that Kingdom. Darkar's ability to change his appearance recalls the ability of both Morgoth and Sauron to transform themselves at will. The Gloomix that Darkar gave the Trix also recalls the Rings of Power that Sauron gave to the different peoples of Middle-earth to make them stronger, but to turn them into his slaves as well. Darkar's servers, the Ancestral Witches somewhat resemble the Nazgûl as they appeared in the The Lord of the Rings books and films: once powerful and made of flesh and bones like everyone else, but later becoming wraiths (the bodies of the Ancestresses apparently perished during their imprisonment in Obsidian, and were bound to continue existing in a ghost-like appearance).
		Sauron
	Transformers	Unicron	Unicron is an ancient evil God of Chaos who originated at the dawn of the universe and whose goal is to consume the whole universe until there is nothing left around him except the void. Similarly, Darkar is an ancient maleficent deity who originated from the void before the creation of the Magic Dimension and who absorbs and consumes all energy. Unicron's twin brother is Primus, who is also his opposite, with Unicron representing evil and chaos while Primus represents good and order, and their continued existence is necessary for the stability of the universe. Primus later became the planet of Cybertron, the home world of the Transformers, and his name is invoked religiously by both the Autobot and the Decepticon factions of the Transformers. Similarly, Darkar's equal and opposite is the Great Dragon, with Darkar representing evil and darkness while the Great Dragon represents good and light, and Professor Wizgiz implied in Season 2 that their continued existence is necessary for the balance of the universe. The Great Dragon later went to rest on the planet of Domino, and it is invoked with high respect by both the Fairies and the Witches. Both Unicron and Darkar make deals with less powerful beings, giving them great power in exchange for their servitude Unicron has sent his heralds to attack Cybertron so he can destroy the Matrix of Leadership, which contains the essence of Primus, the only thing which stands in Unicron's way. Darkar similarly sent his servants to attack Domino so he can obtain the essence of the Great Dragon Both Darkar and Unicron have the ability to change their appearance and both have at least one robot-like form.
	DC Comics	Darkseid (especially the the version of Darkseid from the DC Animated Universe)	Darkseid is an ancient God of Evil whose goal is to acquire a power called the Anti-Life Equation which will allow him to rule the whole Universe. Darkar is an ancient deity of evil whose goal is to acquire the Ultimate Power of the Relix Dimension which will allow him to rule the whole Universe. In the "Legacy" episodes of Superman: The Animated Series, Darkseid temporarily brainwashes Superman and turns him evil. In Season 2, similarly, Darkar temporarily captured Bloom and turned her evil.
	Chinese Mythology	The Chinese Phoenix	In Chinese Mythology, the Phoenix is a legendary bird symbolizing virtue and grace and which is associated with royalty. Its counterpart is the Chinese Dragon and the pairing of the Phoenix and the Dragon in Chinese tradition is said to represent the Yin and Yang. Professor Wizgiz similarly said in one of his classes that good energy and evil energy exist in a balance similar to the Yin and the Yang. This was possibly a suggestion that the powers of the Shadow Phoenix and the Fire Dragon exist in complete balance like the Yin and the Yang.
	Greek Mythology	The Greek Phoenix	In Greek Mythology, the Phoenix is an extremely long-lived bird that, when its life draws to a close, builds a nest of spices where it burns itself and is then reborn as a young version of itself from its own ashes. Unlike the Chinese Phoenix, the Greek Phoenix is not associated with dragons.

	Harry Potter	Lord Voldemort	Valtor was involved in the disappearance of Bloom's parents just as Voldemort was responsible for the death of Harry Potter's parents. Though, unlike Voldemort, Valtor was not the direct cause of Oritel and Marion's disappearance and they even remained alive, unlike Harry Potter's parents. Both Valtor and Voldemort disappeared when their nemeses were still babies only to return many years later when their respective enemies had grown up and become teenagers. Valtor and Bloom share a connection through the Dragon Flame much like how Voldemort and Harry share a similar connection through their wands as well as through the piece of Voldemort's soul that was inside Harry. Both Valtor and Voldemort were betrayed by someone who once fought alongside them and now lead a school that teaches dark magic whose inhabitants are mostly not evil. For Valtor, this was Griffin, headmistress of the Cloud Tower School for Witches whereas, for Voldemort, it was Igor Karkaroff, headmaster of the Durmstrang Institute. In the episode "Alfea Under Siege," Valtor destroys the barrier surrounding Alfea in a similar style to how Voldemort destroys the barrier surrounding Hogwarts. Interestingly, this scene was exclusive to the final film, which came out after the series's third season, which could suggest that Valtor might have inspired part of Voldemort's portrayal in the films. The Trix's love for Valtor was similar to Bellatrix Lestrange's love Voldemort, though the Trix later betray Valtor, whereas Bellatrix remains loyal to Voldemort. Valtor's Mark bears resemblance to Voldemort's Dark Mark. In both cases, those who serve them have their marks placed on their bodies with Voldemort's Dark Mark appearing on the arms while Valtor's Mark appears on the neck. Also, whenever either Valtor or Voldemort accomplish something important for their goals, their marks can be seen in the sky.

As a result, when Cassandra foresees the Destruction of Troy, which includes the trap of the Trojan Horse, as well as her own death, no one in the kingdom believes her, obviously leading to the Greeks besieging Troy.

The Chimera was one of the offspring of Typhon and Echidna and a sibling of such monsters as Cerberus and the Lernaean Hydra. The term chimera has also come to mean an impossible or foolish fantasy or something that is hard to believe.

Darkar's Fortress	Tolkien's Legendarium	Barad-dûr	Lord Darkar's fortress might have been partly inspired from Barad-dûr, the fortress of the Dark Lord Sauron from The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien, and by Mount Doom, the volcano found near Barad-dûr. In The Lord of the Rings, Sauron had poured a large amount of his power into Barad-dûr and Mount Doom such that, when Sauron was defeated for good, Barad-dûr collapsed (while in earlier times the enemies of Sauron had been unable to completely destroy Barad-dûr because Sauron was still alive) and Mount Doom had a massive eruption after which it became dormant forever, similar to how Darkar's fortress and all the caves around it collapsed after Darkar was defeated. In The Lord of the Rings, the darkness at the heart of Mount Doom was so intense that even the light of the Phial of Galadriel, containing the light of Eärendil's star, the purest light of the universe of the Lord of the Rings, was subdued and Frodo's will was broken and he ended by becoming corrupted by the One Ring. This is similar to how the evil at the heart of Darkar's realm was so powerful that even Bloom, who possessed the Dragon Flame, the most powerful power of light in the Magic Dimension, was severely weakened.
		Mordor	The realm of Darkar may also have been partly inspired by Mordor, the land ruled by Sauron. Mordor is a land peopled by evil creatures such as orcs, trolls and giant spiders and where normal life cannot exist.

		Tír na nÓg	In Irish mythology and folklore, the island of Tír na nÓg, whose name means "The Land of Youth" and is pronounced as "Teer na n-oh-g," is depicted as a supernatural paradise—a realm of everlasting youth, beauty, health, abundance and joy. The inhabitants of the Island of Tír na nÓg are the Tuatha Dé Danann, the Gods of pre-Christian Ireland as well as the land's former inhabitants who left Ireland and settled in Tír na nÓg after humans settled in Ireland. After the Irish converted to Christianity, the Tuatha Dé Danann became fairies in Irish folklore, and Tír na nÓg became associated with fairies. Tír na nÓg was also said to be located in the ocean far in the west, beyond the edges of the world, which could only be reached either after a difficult voyage or by being invited by a messenger of the gods. There are similarities between the Tuatha Dé Danann leaving Ireland and moving to their own kingdom after humans arrived and the Earth Fairies being imprisoned in their own kingdom by the Wizards of the Black Circle. Tir Nan Og is similarly a parallel realm where the Earth Fairies who once ruled Earth now live and which is accessible only by magic through an island on the west of Ireland.
		Island of Avalon	The Island of Tir Nan Og in Winx Club may also draw inspiration from the mythical Island of Avalon of the Arthurian Legend, as it was usually associated with Morgan le Fay, whom more than likely inspired the character of Queen Morgana, and references to the Arthurian Legend had already been made in Winx Club itself when Faragonda first told the Winx the truth behind the Wizards of the Black Circle. Supposedly, Morgan le Fay was said to live on the Island of Avalon with her eight sisters According to legend, the Island of Avalon was an enchanted island that produced good things by itself, meaning that cultivation of the soil was unnecessary, since fruits, cereals and other good things would grow by themselves, and it was here were people could live up to a hundred years. It was also supposed to be the location of where King Arthur's sword, Excalibur, was forged, as well as the location of Arthur's final battle against his evil son, Mordred, which led to his death. It was said that he would rise from the dead to once again lead his people against their enemies.
