The Nymphs of Magix were an ancient order of nine exceptionally powerful nymphs who had reigned supreme over the fate of the Magic Dimension for untold eons[2], and dedicated their lives to overseeing and protecting the deep slumber of the Great Dragon in the Vortex of Flames on Domino. The leader of the nymphs was referred to as a Supreme Nymph, who was arguably the most powerful one of them, likely due to their exceptional powers and leadership skills. Each of them were also guardians of their respective homeworlds since ancient times, and many of the nymphs came from Domino. According to legend, however, the true home of the Nymphs is in Lake Roccaluce.
Overview[]
The Nymphs of Magix were an aggregation of nine very powerful and respected fairies who ruled the destiny of the Magic Dimension following the Great Dragon's mysterious disappearance. Since the disappearance of the Great Dragon, the last and arguably most powerful one of them being Daphne, the Supreme Nymph of Magix. They were apparently so respected that they were even represented on a Temple found at the square of Magix City on Magix, and had their relics and representations in the hall of the Museum of Magic on Magix as well, where they were represented on each of the two opposing walls that represented four nymphs each, along with Daphne (or her ancestor) along withe Great Dragon at her feet on the central wall. They also were represented in the Cave of the Nymphs at the depths of Lake Roccaluce, where the Source of Sirenix is located, and where Daphne dwelt following Domino's destruction. They were bound to protect the five-headed Great Dragon in the pits of the Vortex of Flames underneath the royal palace of Domino and watch over its sleep to protect the entire Magic Dimension, although not all the nymphs were present during a shift, as Omnia was still in the Infinite Ocean, Daphne was away teaching at Alfea, and Diletta (who was not confirmed yet to be a nymph) was the headmistress of the Golden Auditorium.
Issue 149 of the comic series also implies that the nine Nymphs may have originated on Domino and continue as a long-standing tradition in which those who become nymphs go on to protect the Magic Dimension as they are immortalized within a special hall dedicated to each nymph that has graced its history. Elder nymphs whose flames that represented their magical power begin to die out due to their old age or other unseen, unfortunate circumstances, such as the untimely death of one of the members or as a result of a retirement, were allowed to select and train protégés to take their place once they become worthy enough.
There were at least three known groups of the Nymphs throughout history; the very first led by Daphne's ancestor thousands of years before the start of the series. They are the ones who are represented all over the entire Magic Dimension, and it included Daphne's and Egerya's own ancestresses. Egerya, an older nymph, replaced her ancestor and belonged to the second generation of the Guardian Nymphs, long before Daphne and the other nymphs were even born.
In Issue 149 of the comic series, Egerya decided to retire from the group due to her old age and was subsequently succeeded by three young Guardian Nymphs of Domino, Marlene, Janice and Diane.

Magical Abilities[]
The Nymphs of Magix, described as supreme fairies who ruled the fate of the Magic Dimension and powerful guardians of the Dragon's Flame, were of considerable power. They possessed exceptional magical powers, mainly revolving around the manipulation of the elements of nature, and were among the most powerful creatures of magic in existence.
Being nymphs of great power, the Supreme were capable of performing various outstanding feats of magic. They have displayed, for example, the ability to fly without wings, breathe and survive freely in underwater conditions, open portals to other worlds, and few more. They were, in addition to it, highly skilled in the practice of other forms of magic and some basic first-level spells such as telekinesis, transmuting objects, fixing minor messes, etc., as well as reversing and neutralizing other enchantments and manipulating the powers of other magical creatures.
Many of the Nymphs came from the ancient realm of Domino, and as such they had possessed the natural ability to control the ancient Beast of the Depths, a revered creature with the power stronger than the Dragon Flame.
Despite their immense power, the Nine were not generally immortal and could still be killed through powerful enough forces and elements of magic. For example, Daphne was killed when the Ancestral Witches overpowered her[3] (and when the series was renewed, cursed into her spiritual form), Egerya was forced to retire from her post due to her advanced age, and Politea, despite returning from her cursed form and near-death experience, was seemingly destroyed via the power of the Pearl of the Deep.
Etymology[]
- Since all the Nymphs come from Domino, not from Magix, the name for the group should logically be Nymphs of Domino.
Trivia[]
- In Greek Mythology, Nymphs are minor nature deities associated with different aspects of nature.
- The Nymphs of Magix must not be confused with the Water Nymphs.
- Some of the Nymphs share some similarities;
- Both Daphne and Politea are Nymphs of Sirenix and both were cursed by the Ancestral Witches. Both also had their powers stolen once by a villain.
- Unlike Daphne, whose living body was restored through Bloom's Sirenix wish, Politea was not and her Sirenix powers remained evil, presumably due to still being weak from having recently recovered from her near-death experience.
- Both Daphne and Egerya shared some authority over the other Nymphs.
- Politea, Tetis, and Marlene all have shown some craving for power.
- Both Daphne and her ancestor had been Supreme Nymphs, and had their Nymph forms look exactly the same, like did Egerya with her own ancestor.
- Both Tetis and Marlene had shown remorse for their actions and were forgiven back into the group.
- Both Daphne and Diane share the same initials in their first names.
- At least, four of the Nymphs have blonde hair, Daphne and Tetis included. Egerya also had once blonde hair in her youth, though during her elderly years, it became gray. However, Politea and Diane both have brown hair. Marlene has purple hair, while Janice has purple.
- In the comics, all the Nymphs (except for Daphne) have small pink wings in their Nymph forms.
- Both Daphne and Politea are Nymphs of Sirenix and both were cursed by the Ancestral Witches. Both also had their powers stolen once by a villain.
- Daphne is the first confirmed Nymph in the series, followed by Omnia (who was not confirmed to be a part of the Nine until after the introduction of Politea), Politea, and, in the comics, Tetis, Egerya, and the latter's three successors.
- They have striking similarities with the Alfea Champions, the Ethereal Fairies, and the seven Winx fairies.
- Both the three Champions of Alfea and the nine Nymphs of Magix had been described as the strongest fairies in all of magic history, and both apparently came from Magix.
- Both Daphne and the three Champions had elemental powers; while each of the Champions had powers over one of the three elements of the Fire (Ress), Water (Chevonne), and the Air (Farcelia) respectively, Daphne mastered all of them, including the Element of Earth, despite her main nymph firepower which she shared in common with Ress.
- While unconfirmed, it was possible that the Champions were once a part of the original Nine.
- Both the nine Nymphs and the six Winx fairies (except for Roxy, the seventh member) were described as extremely powerful and were somewhat related to the power of the Great Dragon. Their respective leaders were also relatives.
- Both the three Champions of Alfea and the nine Nymphs of Magix had been described as the strongest fairies in all of magic history, and both apparently came from Magix.
- Egerya was the oldest of her generation in the group before her retirement while her successors are the youngest. Controversely, Daphne is arguably the most powerful nymph of her generation (being a former fellow nymph of a retired nymph Egerya) as a result of being a former Keeper of the Dragon's Flame and high-ranking status as a Supreme Nymph, followed by Politea, a fellow Sirenix nymph of great power, as both were extremely powerful and were even sought after by Tritannus and the Trix themselves for their power in order to access and rule over the Infinite Ocean, and activate the Emperor's Throne.
- Daphne is the only Nymph known to be a member of royalty, and was the only one with a named power source, the Dragon's Flame specifically, although she is no longer its keeper. She is also the only nymph known to marry, let in a romantic relationship alone.
- It is unknown how Marlene, Janice, and Diane were all allowed into the group, despite having only one free place as stated by Aisha, assuming there were no additions to the group that exceeded the original number of nymphs, and two of the other eight Nymphs (most likely Politea and some other unnamed nymph) were not succeeded by them as well. However, it was still possible that they were just regular comic characters, and were not meant for anything canon in the continuity of the series.
- For around 20 years, only seven of the nine nymphs were active members with the absence of both Daphne and Politea.
- As such, it is unknown why neither Politea nor Daphne were replaced during that period, even after Domino has been restored.
- Omnia had been revealed to be one of the nine Nymphs of Magix in an official book titled Guida al Mondo Magico released on 27 July, 2019.
- Omnia is the first nymph known not to come from Domino, but rather from outside of the Magic Dimension.
- It was implied that Diletta was a member of the nine Nymphs, although she was away on her duty as the headmistress of the Golden Auditorium on Melody as she was known to be a close and trusted friend to Daphne, the Supreme Nymph, to the point of discussing new threats to the Dimension with her superior in private, including the Trix’s return, their new powerful allies, and continued attacks on various magical institutes across the dimension. She was also dressed in a similar outfit as the rest of the Nymphs from the comics (with the exception of Daphne, Politea, Egerya, and the latter's three successors), although her dress was of shades of blue and purple, unlike the standard orange colour.
