The Universal Index[1] (Italian: Il Dimensionario Magico) is a special library without books, which contains all the information about all living beings in all dimensions, magical and ordinary. The entrance door-portal is located on the second floor of the western tower of Alfea. Access to this wing is usually closed to female students. The Index exists in a higher plane of existence.
Overview[]
The entrance to this place is located in the wing of the school building that is usually closed to female students. The Winx had to walk for a long time through the endless corridors of Alfea and huge halls that they had never seen before, to eventually find themselves on the second floor of the western tower, in front of a huge glass wall, behind which the endless hills of Magix were visible.
Ordinary vision is of no help here - to see the contents behind the glass wall, normal vision cannot be used, only inner gaze. Then, on the surface, huge doors made of black oak will be discovered. They had no handles: the wooden surface was completely covered with writing. This is clearly a magic door, which can only be opened by knowing the password. Magic is the most important element of the Magic Dimension. Therefore, the password is "Cigam" the reverse for magic. It is enough to pronounce the password mentally, so that at the same second the sound of a bolt being pulled back and the creak of rusty hinges is heard, and then the magic door swings open, revealing a dark doorway. As soon as the travelers enter, the doors automatically close behind them, and many bright lights flash in the darkness - above their heads stretches a dark blue night sky strewn with stars, and around them move strange figures, so clear that they seem real, in fact, they are disembodied images.
Countless strange creatures replaced each other on the walls: mermaids with long tails, inhabitants of the deep sea; healthy ogres, as stocky and hairy as Knut ; gnomes in red caps, playfully looking out from behind the trees; centaurs, jumping along green valleys; elves with pointed ears, dressed in green clothes. All these creatures seemed real, but only until their outlines melted and were replaced by new bizarre figures.
Faragonda explains, "the creatures you see around you are part of the Index: the only place in the universe that contains information about all living things, from the ordinary to the most amazing."

Season 3[]
To find out the name of the race to which the girl they found belongs to, Rosa, Faragonda and Wizgiz bring the fairies to the Index, where they search for the people to whom the lake girl belongs for several hours among thousands of varieties of magical and ordinary creatures. Remembering the webbing between the fingers and the transparent wet skin of the stranger, Tecna and Bloom significantly reduce the search time.
Eventually, creatures very similar to Rosa appear before the fairies' eyes: their movements were leisurely and smooth, like most creatures living in the water. But it turns out that this creature comes from a secret kingdom, the name of which can only be revealed by the Great Magic Council. Legends say that this kingdom is hidden at the bottom of a lake that sparkles like a precious stone. The name was hidden because whoever learns it will be able to penetrate the mysterious kingdom and learn its secrets.
Trivia[]
- Entering the library a second time is not so easy - you have to wait for several weeks, or even months. This is because the travelers disturb the past, present and future dimensions with their searches. Magic lets them into the library, but it will also prevent them from entering it again, so as not to upset the universal balance.
- Inside the library, days fly by unnoticed, like a few hours: the Winx spent a few hours in the Pointer - in reality, two days passed.
- The names of some kingdoms cannot be revealed even within the Index. This is done to protect the kingdoms, because whoever knows the name will be able to penetrate the mysterious kingdom and learn its secrets. The only way to learn the name is to convene the Great Magic Council.
- The Index is similar in description and properties to the Golden Kingdom (the dimension where the Water Stars are located).
